Best Private High Schools on the Eastside
The Eastside's private high-school field is small and concentrated in three school identities: secular co-ed K-12 indies, the regional archdiocesan Catholic 9-12, and Christian K-12 systems with secondary campuses. The Overlake School (Redmond, 5-12, founded 1967 on a former farm campus) is the senior secular K-12 indie on the Eastside and a longstanding NWAIS member. Eastside Preparatory School (Kirkland, 5-12, founded 2002 by parents and educators, NWAIS-accredited 2010) is the younger secular co-ed indie — Eastside Prep is most often named alongside University Prep and Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences in cross-shore parent comparisons of secular co-ed independents.
Eastside Catholic School (Sammamish, 6-12, founded 1980) is the regional archdiocesan Catholic anchor and one of the few large Catholic college-preps east of Lake Washington. Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart (Bellevue, 5-12, all-girls) is the only Sacred Heart Network school in the Pacific Northwest. The Bear Creek School (Redmond, classical-Christian K-12, National Blue Ribbon) and Bellevue Christian's Clyde Hill secondary anchor the larger Christian K-12 systems. BASIS Independent Bellevue, opened 2017 as part of the national BASIS Independent chain, is the youngest secular K-12 option on the Eastside.
Northwest Yeshiva High School on Mercer Island (9-12, ~50 students) is the only Jewish high school in the Pacific Northwest, serving the regional Orthodox Jewish community. The remaining options on the Eastside HS list are smaller specialty and alternative-pedagogy programs that report K-12 enrollment.
