White River High School serves about 1,370 students from Buckley, Wilkeson, Carbonado, and surrounding foothills communities in eastern Pierce County. Its first classes were held in 1898, and the modern 240,000-square-foot campus opened in September 2003 just outside Buckley after voters passed a 2001 bond. The Hornets brand dates to a 1949 merger with Enumclaw, which de-consolidated three years later.
Academic offerings cover Advanced Placement courses, Project Lead The Way pathways, dual-credit options through regional colleges, and CTE programs serving the district's largely rural community. The school's K-12 footprint feeds from Glacier Middle School and an extensive Hornet athletic-camp pipeline.
Athletics center on Arrow Lumber Stadium, which received a community-funded broadcasting upgrade through the NFHS Network. The Hornets compete in the South Puget Sound 2A South Division, and recent fall seasons have produced strong football and volleyball campaigns. The Enumclaw Courier-Herald regularly covers Hornet schedules and homecoming traditions, while the school's graduation rate of 97 percent ranks among the highest in Pierce County.
