Vashon Island High School is a small island public high school in the Vashon Island School District (King County), serving about 511 students in grades 9–12 with a 22:1 student/teacher ratio. The school posts very strong proficiency results — about 73% math and 94% reading — and ranks 15th statewide by U.S. News methodology and in the top 10% of WA public high schools.
The school was named a national Blue Ribbon School in 2008 and earned a 2013 Washington Achievement Award for Overall Excellence and High Improvement. AP participation runs around 65%. The Pirates compete in the Nisqually League of WIAA's West Central District. Vashon HS is recognized in PolarisList's Washington Harvard/Princeton/MIT placement rankings, and the school maintains a deep arts program with three plays and three concerts annually.
