Stevenson High School is the only high school in the Stevenson-Carson School District, a K-12 system that covers nearly all of Skamania County in the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge. The campus on NW Gropper Road in Stevenson — the county seat — was established in 1965 and now enrolls about 280 students drawn from Stevenson, Carson, and surrounding rural communities.
The district has been pressured by demographics and federal-funding gaps; Oregon Public Broadcasting reported in August 2025 that the loss of Secure Rural Schools dollars and falling enrollment forced the closure of Wind River Middle School in Carson, with seventh and eighth graders moving onto the high-school campus. Total district enrollment has dropped from roughly 900 in 2020 to under 700.
The Bulldogs compete in WIAA Class 1A across football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, track, and tennis. The school offers AP courses and a Gifted & Talented program, and partners with Columbia Gorge Community College in nearby Hood River, Oregon, and Clark College for dual-credit access.
