Shoreline Christian School is a PreK-12 school of about 225 students at 2400 NE 147th Street, founded in 1952 by the Christian Education Society of Seattle, which still governs it. It opened that fall in a private home with one teacher and 15 students in grades 1-8, first as Calvin Christian School and then as Watson Groen Christian School, after the pastor who championed its creation. A two-classroom building went up on the present site in 1953, grades 1-12 were in place by 1957, and the first seniors graduated in 1958. The name changed to Shoreline Christian in 1997.
The school sits in the Christian Reformed tradition and holds Christian Schools International accreditation, which distinguishes it from the evangelical and nondenominational schools that dominate north King County, including King's Schools, the much larger CRISTA-run PreK-12 a few miles away in Shoreline, and Cedar Park Christian in Bothell. Students come from many denominations. The tradeoff is scale: Shoreline Christian competes in the WIAA's Northwest 1B classification and runs small graduating classes, which means a tight community and few electives compared with King's or Bellevue Christian.
The campus grew in stages: a secondary building in 1963 with a 1967 addition, a gymnasium in 1978 later rededicated as Watson Groen Memorial Gymnasium, a track in 1988, and a replacement elementary building in 1990. Regional accreditation through the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges followed in 1996. Athletics, played as the Chargers since 2014, include baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, track, and volleyball, alongside arts, a summer camp, and the Charger Kids Club.
