Medina Academy is the Eastside's full-time Islamic school, founded in 2000 with four preschoolers and now enrolling roughly 230 students in K-8 by federal count and, by the school's own figure, about 390 across all programs. It operates two campuses: the original at 16242 Northup Way in Bellevue and a second at 5000 148th Avenue NE in Redmond, near several Islamic centers. The school has extended its grade span upward and now describes itself as serving preschool through high school.
Full-time Islamic schools are few in Washington, and Medina is the Eastside's established one, with the dual accreditation that sets it apart from smaller weekend and mosque-based programs: Cognia Global Commissions since 2020 and the Council of Islamic Schools in North America since 2023, plus Washington State Board of Education approval. For families weighing it against the Eastside's Christian and secular independents, the comparison is a faith-integrated environment and a 12:1 student-teacher ratio against a newer and smaller high school division. About two-thirds of students are students of color, and the school reports that nearly all faculty hold advanced degrees.
Academics include accelerated and competitive mathematics, robotics teams competing in FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge, after-school programs, and student-led clubs including a MuslimPreneurs entrepreneurship group. Community service runs through the MedinaCares volunteer program, and the school won a national Most Valuable Recycler award in 2025-26. Islamic education is integrated across the school culture rather than confined to a single class.
