Mark Morris High School opened in 1957 as the second comprehensive high school in the Longview Public Schools, serving the western Cowlitz County city of Longview from a campus on Mark Morris Court. About 920 students attend, with R.A. Long High School as the cross-town rival and Lower Columbia College a partner for dual-credit study.
Academic offerings include Advanced Placement courses across English, social science, math, and science, plus CTE dual credit through Lower Columbia and a Running Start pipeline that enrolls roughly a fifth of juniors and seniors. The yearbook, the Almonarch, and the Monarchs name reflect the school's long-running iconography in red and Columbia blue.
Athletic teams compete in the Greater St. Helens 2A league, and the football program brought in coach Mike Peck in February 2024 after a 21-season tenure by Shawn Perkins. Notable alumni include Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black, NBA coach Doug Christie, and former U.S. ambassador Robin Raphel. The school is currently navigating a high-profile criminal case involving members of its boys basketball program that has drawn extensive coverage from regional outlets.
