Lynden Christian Schools, founded in 1910, is one of the oldest private schools in Washington State and the centerpiece of Lynden's Dutch Reformed educational tradition in upper Whatcom County. The K-12 system grew out of the area's Christian Reformed congregations and now enrolls roughly 1,200 students across a clustered elementary, middle, and high school footprint — making it one of the larger non-Catholic Christian K-12 systems in the state, alongside Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) and Cascade Christian (Puyallup).
Lynden Christian's distinguishing identity is Reformed in educational philosophy (open admission, but explicitly grounded in Reformed theology) and operates as a member of Christian Schools International. The academic program includes AP coursework, dual-credit through regional colleges, and a fine-arts pathway alongside traditional college-prep. The school's most visible profile, though, is athletic: the Lyncs are a sustained statewide power, and the basketball program is consistently treated by Whatcom Hoops and other regional outlets as one of the top small-school programs in the state.
The boys basketball program has won at least 13 WIAA state championships including a 2026 Class 1A title; the girls basketball program has captured multiple state titles dating back to the late 1970s, including a four-year Class 1A reign. Football has one state championship (1997). Lynden Christian teams routinely reach the SunDome state tournaments in Yakima, and the school's athletic facilities serve as a community hub for north Whatcom County.
