Kentwood High School opened in 1981 in Covington and serves about 2,000 students as one of four comprehensive high schools in the Kent School District. The campus on 164th Avenue SE draws from the southeastern half of the district, including Covington, Maple Valley, and unincorporated King County, and is among the largest 4A schools in the state.
Academics include a deep Advanced Placement catalog that spans 2-D and 3-D Art, Drawing, English Language and Composition, multiple sciences, and the AP Capstone sequence. World-language study is required for two years across Spanish, American Sign Language, or Japanese. The school's music program earned a 2004 Grammy Signature Schools award, one of 41 nationwide that year.
The Conquerors, often called the Conks, compete in the North Puget Sound League's Cascade Division at 4A. Football claimed back-to-back WIAA state titles in 2001 and 2002, and the swim program has produced state record holders. Notable alumni include NFL/NBA player Mathew Barzal, Olympic bronze medalist Reese McGuire, NBA guard Rodney Stuckey, comedian Jeff Dye, American Idol finalist Stefano Langone, and Modest Mouse drummer Jeremiah Green.
