Garfield High School is an iconic Seattle Public Schools comprehensive high school in the Central District, with a deep historic identity, an alumni network spanning generations, and a nationally recognized music program. The school is the #42-ranked WA school by PolarisList HPM placements and serves a substantial economically-diverse student body.
In June 2025, the community marked the one-year anniversary of a fatal 2024 campus shooting with a student walkout and ongoing debate over campus-police presence. The school issued shelter-in-place during a November 2025 Rainier Ave investigation. In January 2026, Garfield convened a 'Reclaiming the Village' forum alongside construction plans for classroom technology and school-safety upgrades, including new safety cameras. Academics, music, and athletics continue to anchor the school's role in the city's high-school landscape.
