Concordia Christian Academy is Tacoma's Lutheran PreK-12 school, with about 225 students on a 7.5-acre campus at East 56th and B Street in the city's south end. Its roots go to 1899, when Zion Lutheran School opened in North Tacoma; in 1939 three congregations formed the Concordia Lutheran School Association and moved the school to Parkland, across from Pacific Lutheran University, and in 1948 it relocated to the current site. Mount Rainier Lutheran High opened in 2002 to complete the run through 12th grade, and in 2017 the two schools rebranded together as Concordia Christian Academy under an independent nonprofit structure within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Most LCMS schools in western Washington stop at eighth grade, which makes Concordia's high school a comparatively rare option for families who want a Lutheran secondary program rather than moving to a larger evangelical school such as Cascade Christian in Puyallup or Tacoma's Catholic high schools. The association model also sets it apart from single-parish schools: five congregations, including Zion Evangelical and Our Savior in Tacoma, Immanuel in Puyallup, and Beautiful Savior in Milton, share ownership. The tradeoff is scale, since high school grade cohorts run around 20 to 25 students and course breadth is correspondingly narrow.
The campus has four buildings on the 7.5-acre site. The school holds National Lutheran School Accreditation, belongs to the WIAA, and fields seven sports: baseball, basketball, cheer, cross country, soccer, track, and volleyball. Programs include Learning Edge academic support and a National Honor Society chapter. The LCMS reported 241 students across K-12 in 2025.
