Chiawana Senior High School opened in 2009 as the second comprehensive high school in the Pasco School District, drawing students from the rapidly growing west side of Pasco and surrounding Franklin County. With about 3,150 students at its 2023-24 peak, Chiawana spent more than a decade as the largest public high school in Washington, supported by 16 portable classrooms wrapped around a building originally designed for 2,200.
Academic offerings include Advanced Placement courses, dual credit through Columbia Basin College, and CTE pathways aligned with the agricultural, energy, and health-care industries that anchor the Tri-Cities economy. The school's motto, See Blue in All You Do, reflects its blue-and-silver Riverhawks identity. Chiawana was named a 2025 AWSL Culture Kick-Off honoree for excellence in school climate.
In August 2025, the Tri-City Herald reported that the opening of nearby Sageview High School would shift roughly 1,200 students out of Chiawana and Pasco High, projecting Chiawana's enrollment to drop to about 2,270. Athletically, the Riverhawks compete in the Mid-Columbia Conference at 4A and won their first state football title in 2013. Notable alumni include soccer professional Summer Yates and basketball player Talia von Oelhoffen.
