A.G. West Black Hills High School opened in fall 1997 on a 41-acre campus along Littlerock Road SW in Tumwater, named for civic leader Arthur Garret West and the Black Hills that frame the western horizon. About 760 students attend, making it the second comprehensive high school in the Tumwater School District alongside Tumwater High.
The 188,000-square-foot building supports a curriculum that includes Advanced Placement coursework, marching band, a noted drama program, DECA, and one of Washington's oldest competitive rifle teams. The school's CTE wing and athletics complex anchor extracurricular life, and a National Honor Society chapter has run continuously since the school's earliest classes.
The Wolves compete in the 2A Evergreen Conference and have collected five state titles in school history, including back-to-back rifle championships in 2009-10 and 2010-11, plus titles in fastpitch softball and boys track and field. Recent district announcements highlight league championships in golf, the Battle for Billy rivalry weekend, and the annual Booster Bash auction supporting student programs at the Tumwater campus.
